Giving a spacious master bedroom a fresh makeover with classic navy and warm wood tones.
I had so much fun helping January’s Instagram E-consult winner create an inviting bedroom design. Scroll down to shop this design board.
OVERVIEW OF SPACE:
This client has a large master bedroom with tall 11’ ceilings and carpeting on the floor.
Her king sized bed is on an 18’ long wall.
She currently has this comforter on her bed.
And this is her navy quilt.
She wants to keep her wood dresser with silver hardware.
She’d like to repaint the walls. They are currently a pretty beige color so it will either be repainted in the same color or I suggested these 3 to keep the room light, airy, and warm:
1. Alabaster – shown in picture. A white that has some warmth but isn’t yellow.
2. Accessible Beige – one of the most popular colors Sherwin Williams has.
3. Agreeable Gray – a popular griege that looks good with all wood tones but isn’t as warm as number two.
Here are some pictures of the client's bedroom BEFORE to get an idea of the room. She uses this comforter during the colder months and then switches to the navy quilt in the warmer months.
She will keep the dresser and possibly the nightstands:
DESIGN GOAL:
This client would like to create a beautiful and comforting bedroom for her kids and dogs to gather together and relax in. She would like to change out her 10 year old carpet and get a headboard to fill up the large wall. The client would like to add more function by including a bench at the end of her bed and a desk on the opposite wall across from the bed.
DESIGN STYLE:
Either a beach feel to play off her navy bedding or an eclectic style playing off her warm wood dresser and nightstands to display items from her travels.

Flooring this is the lighter shown on the left.
This is the darker and warmer flooring on the right.
This RUG in a 9x12 size is great for the price!
This RUG is a favorite option too with a little fringe!
*Both are around $200 for the 9 x 12
Fabric headboard with the tallest at 63”:
Headboard: The colors oatmeal, sand, and stone in the performance fabrics would all look great!
This is a low version of this headboard at 50” tall but there are many similar options that are not as expensive.
Because of her tall 11' ceilings, there is plenty of space to display artwork above the bed. 1 large piece or groups of 2, 3, 4, or 6 would work. Option 1. Option 2. Option 3.
*A lot of times you can find large affordable artwork at Homegoods or find an old canvas to paint with the colors you'd like to incorporate.
31" wide 3 drawer nightstands are great for storage and aren't dwarfed against the 18 foot wide wall they will go against. This other option is in a gray wash color.
2 tall table lamps will go well on the nightstands in front of the mirrors.
This pair of lamps is beautiful and almost 31" tall.
2 tall mirrors to go above the nightstands. This size and the champagne silver color are stunning!
I'd use silver Rub N Buff for the second option to coordinate with her dresser hardware.
Light gray fabric Bench for foot of the bed
Desk to go on opposite wall:
Option 1 -
I like the navy color on the opposite wall from your bedspread but there aren't very many larger navy writing desks available. I would suggest finding a used wood desk and chalk painting it.
*I've painted a crib and bed by making chalk paint by mixing SW Naval with plaster of paris. An easy recipe for this is 1/3 cup plaster of paris, 1/3 cup cold water, then add 1 cup of latex paint. Plaster of Paris and then use wax or clear matte poly to seal it.
Option 2 in white
Option 3 is a great size but expensive. It would work in either wood color.
Again, she could have some luck finding a used one.
And there you have it! A classic, updated master bedroom featuring navy and wood tones.
